Linda Leatherdale, Luxury Living interviews The Gatti Group about their recent renovation win Best Renovation (Addition) over $500,000 (at the 22nd Annual Renovation and Custom Home Awards presented by BILD | RenoMark) and the impact felt on their industry by the COVID-19 pandemic.
COVID-19 has hit the construction industry hard. Job sites shut down, projects cancelled, product delivery delays, confusion, and uncertainty of what is to come.
“Many of our suppliers are closed, and many trades are reluctant to
work on job sites because it is difficult to self-isolate,” says Tony.
But with that said, the Gatti Group is flexible to their current conditions and now communicates with clients and suppliers by way of phone, emails and virtual meetings. They have a positive outlook on their industry, believing it will bounce back. And recommend that people continue moving their projects along.
Tony’s advice, “Do not wait until this viral pandemic is over to choose a designer, contractor and sign a contract. Municipalities are still accepting and processing building permits, so it is wise to move your renovation plans forward and not get caught in the backlog.” And that the pre-planning process may be accomplished virtually.
They have also seen “opportunities for industry improvements
and efficiencies. For example, some municipalities have been utilizing video inspections which speed up the process. [Tony] hopes this will continue after the pandemic.”
Both Tony and Joe recognize that the slow down has offered what
matters most to them, the importance of increased family time.
